Youthcentrix™ Capacity Building Groups are structured, outcomes
focused and guided by participants' development and needs. The mentoring program emphasizes
self-
advocacy, self-agency, self-expression, and communication skills. The activity-based mentoring employed in the
sessions encourages an adaptive analysis of self. It further broadens youths' peer, adult, community, and world
perspectives. Guided activities promote
development of the foundational critical thinking, reflective problem solving,
and negotiation skills participants need to work efficiently and effectively toward their social, academic, personal, and professional goals.
Teaching Objective:
To build capacity
of secondary grade level participants’ skills in self-advocacy, self-agency,
self-expression, and communication such that participants can recognize,
evaluate, and utilize their available resources, emerging opportunities,
current challenges, and potentials.
Behavioral Outcomes:
Participating youth
will be able to identify their strengths and utilize those strengths to secure the resources and cultivate the relationships necessary to develop
their potentials and define their communities.
